Fat Transfer in NYC

Harness your body’s natural regenerative power to correct under eye circles and volume loss.

At our luxury medspas in New York, we pride ourselves in offering innovative solutions that harmonize plastic surgery and minimally-invasive procedures. Fat transfer is a regenerative treatment that has long-lasting results such as restoring a more youthful and refreshed appearance. When fat is transferred to a new area within the body some of it is absorbed and broken down; however, the majority will remain permanently. This eliminates the need for multiple treatments, which is a huge benefit for patients.

Fat transfer is an in-office procedure that does not require sedation. This procedure can easily be done with local anesthesia with minimal to no recovery. The two types of fat transfer that we offer are nanofat and microfat procedures. Nanofat is used primarily to address under eye discoloration and uneven texture, while microfat restores lost volume and can be used as an alternative to filler. When these are combined, we can achieve vibrant, natural-looking results.

Nanofat

Best for: Under eye discoloration, fine lines, uneven texture, acne scars, lip lines

Nanofat is a specialized form of fat harvested from the body through a minimally invasive procedure. The fat is harvested via a small syringe and then processed to create a solution containing a wealth of regenerative components including growth factors, cytokines, and stromal vascular fraction (SVF). Nanofat’s properties make it an ideal treatment for under eye discoloration. The tiny cells are injected into the under eye area, stimulating collagen production. This results in a healthier and smoother skin texture and visibly reduces pigmentation. Beyond these immediate improvements, nanofat continues to stimulate collagen production, offering gradual and lasting enhancements over time.

Microfat

Best for: Re-volumizing the face, hands, and under eye area

Microfat contains live adipose cells and is used as an alternative to filler. This process redistributes fat from areas with excess to areas that could benefit from more volume. Microfat is harvested in the same way as nanofat, but processed differently so we are left with a natural-form of injectable filler. It is composed of purified fat cells and regenerative components which we skillfully re-inject throughout the face to add volume. It works harmoniously to soften wrinkles, fine lines and creases, leaving you with overall smoother skin. These results evolve over time as your body integrates the transplanted fat and regenerates surrounding tissues.

Pricing

Fat transfer depends on how many areas are being treated. This typically ranges from $4,000-8,000.

Benefits of Fat Transfer for Facial Rejuvenation

Unlike synthetic fillers, the fat transfer plastic surgery technique uses your own body’s fat cells, offering a safe and organic solution with a variety of benefits, including:

  • Natural and Biocompatible: No risk of allergic reactions or rejection
  • Long-Lasting Results: A portion of the transferred fat establishes a blood supply and remains permanently
  • Skin Rejuvenation: Fat contains regerative cells that promote collagen production
  • Dual Contouring Effect: Harvesting excess fat from another area of the body enhances contours while rejuvenating the face
  • Soft, Natural Look and Feel: Fat integrates seamlessly with facial tissues
  • Effective for Dark Circles: Facial fat grafting reduces hollows and improves the appearance of dark circles

Fat Transfer vs. Dermal Fillers: Which is Right for You?

Both fat transfer procedures and dermal fillers can enhance facial volume, but they have distinct advantages depending on your aesthetic goals. Dermal fillers offer a convenient, non-surgical option with immediate results, making them ideal for temporary volume enhancement or wrinkle reduction. However, fat transfer provides a longer-lasting solution, as a portion of the transferred fat cells permanently integrate with surrounding tissues. A consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon is necessary to determine the best option based on your long-term goals.

The Science Behind Nanofat and Microfat Procedures

Nanofat and microfat grafting are innovative techniques that refine traditional fat transfer to optimize results. Microfat consists of purified fat cells that enhance structural volume and are commonly used for areas like the cheeks, temples, and hands.

On the other hand, Nano fat is emulsified with a high concentration of regenerative cells but minimal volume, making it ideal for skin rejuvenation. Nano fat is particularly effective for treating fine lines, improving skin texture, and reducing pigmentation.

Fat Transfer for Under Eye Rejuvenation

Fat transfer offers a long-lasting solution by restoring volume and improving skin quality with regenerative regerative cells. This treatment is particularly effective for reducing dark circles, as the added volume minimizes shadowing and brightens the under-eye area. Because fat integrates seamlessly with facial tissues, it is an excellent option for the delicate eye area, ensuring a gentle yet noticeable improvement. With no risk of allergic reaction and a soft, natural feel, fat transfer is ideal for achieving a refreshed and well-rested appearance without looking overfilled.

Combining Fat Transfer with Other Cosmetic Procedures

Fat transfer can be seamlessly integrated with other cosmetic procedures to enhance results. Many patients combine fat transfer with laser resurfacing, microneedling, or chemical peels to improve skin texture and tone further. By customizing treatment plans, surgeons can achieve comprehensive and natural-looking results.

The results from fat transfer far outlast those commonly seen with dermal fillers. While the body may reabsorb some of the transferred fat in the initial months, the fat that successfully integrates remains in place permanently. Additionally, the regenerative properties of fat enhance skin quality over time.

Fat Transfer Recovery: What to Expect and How to Optimize Results

Recovery from fat transfer is typically mild to moderate, with swelling and bruising being the most common side effects. Patients can expect to return to normal activities within a week, though swelling may take a few weeks to resolve fully. Following post-procedure guidelines and maintaining a stable weight are essential to optimize injected fat results and reduce unwanted fat in other areas of the face.

Am I a Good Candidate for Fat Transfer?

Fat transfer is an excellent option for individuals looking for a natural and long-lasting solution to restore lost volume and rejuvenate their appearance. The best candidates are also interested in removing excess fat, and addressing concerns such as:

  • Under-eye hollows
  • Deep facial creases
  • Thin or aging lips
  • Skin laxity
  • Lost fatty tissue
  • Prominent veins and tendons
  • Sunken cheeks

A consultation with a qualified surgeon is the best way to determine if fat injections aligns with your aesthetic goals.

Fat Transfer for Hand Rejuvenation

The hands are often an overlooked but telltale sign of aging, with volume loss, prominent veins, and thinning skin becoming more noticeable over time. Fat transfer, or the autologous fat transfer procedure, can restore youthful fullness to the hands while improving skin texture and elasticity. This treatment offers a longer-lasting solution that integrates naturally with the tissues. The added benefit of regerative cells in the transferred fat also enhances skin quality, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and improving hydration.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Should I Expect During a Fat Transfer Procedure?

Every fat transfer appointment begins with a thorough consultation with ournboard-certified plastic surgeon. He will provide you with all available options tonbest correct your concerns. After this, we begin the procedure by injecting local anesthetic, such as lidocaine, into the treatment areas. This ensures you do not feel any pain and are comfortable throughout the procedure. The process begins with harvesting the fat from an area on your body that has excess, either from the abdomen, thighs or waist. We gently remove the fat with a small syringe that is about 10 mL, and then process this into nanofat and microfat. Theharvested fat is passed through a series of filters to achieve the correct consistency. Finally, the nanofat and microfat are injected into the desired areas with a blunt-tipped cannula. The entire procedure takes around 2-3 hours depending on how much fat is needed for each treatment area.

How Should I Prepare for a Fat Transfer Procedure?

We kindly ask that you avoid medications that may cause more bleeding. These include aspirin, Advil, Aleve, motrin, vitamin E and fish oil. If you have any questions about the vitamins or supplements you are taking please consult with your provider.

What Should I Expect After a Fat Transfer Procedure?

There is minimal to no downtime after a fat transfer procedure. Since mostnpatients do not have sedation, there is very little recovery. It is common tonexperience bruising, swelling and mild pain at the harvesting site. This allnsubsides within a few days of the procedure.

Does Fat Transfer Hurt?

Fat transfer is a well-tolerated minimally-invasive procedure. We inject localnanesthesia to the area we harvest from, as well as any area we inject nanofat or microfat. This provides adequate pain control, but we do also offer Pronox as another option. Pronox is a patient-controlled gas containing nitrous oxide and oxygen that provides pain management and eases anxiety. It is similar tonlaughing gas given at the dentist, but in a lower concentration.
