Scarring

What is Scarring?

A scar is the body’s natural way of healing following damage. The skin repairs itself by growing new tissue (scar tissue) to close the wound or damaged area. Scars can form in all shapes and sizes.

There are Five Types of Scars, Including:

Flat

These scars may be slightly raised at first and then flatten as they heal. Flat scars are often pink in red in color and may become slightly lighter or darker as they heal.

Atrophic

These are depressed or sunken scars that often result from acne or chickenpox. They appear as rounded pits or small indentations. Also known as ice pick scars, they develop most often on the face.

Hypertrophic

These are raised scars that never completely flatten out. They do not grow or spread beyond the wounded area.

Keloids

These scars are raised above the surface of the skin and spread beyond the wounded area. They can become quite large and may even affect movement.

Contracture

Contracture scars often develop after a burn and cause the skin to tighten. These scars can make it difficult to move, especially when scarring reaches the muscles or nerves.

Treatment Options

At Haus MD, we offer a selection of effective treatments to diminish the appearance of scars.

CoolPeel

CoolPeel is an innovative Tetra CO2 Laser technology that offers the amazing benefits of CO2 lasers without the downtime! This treatment is non-invasive and targets the superficial layers of skin for a rejuvenated complexion. A very short pulse of light heats the targeted tissues, stimulating collagen production to address a variety of skin concerns such as sun damage, scars, wrinkles, aging, and more.

Microneedling

Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure used to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles, acne scars, scars, and stretch marks. During treatment a professional microneedling device equipped with many thin needles is used to create micro-wounds in the skin, stimulating collagen and elastin production. This results in a smoother, more evenly-textured complexion without downtime.

RF Microneedling

Radiofrequency (RF) microneedling employs the steps of regular microneedling and combines them with RF waves. The small needles in the microneedling device release RF energy into the micro-wounds in the skin, enhancing the collagen creation process. This treatment is ideal for treating fine lines and wrinkles, stretch marks, acne scars and other scars, hyperpigmentation, and more.
