Microneedling results can be long-lasting with proper maintenance and follow-up treatments. While the results aren’t technically permanent, because the aging process continues as we get older, periodic maintenance sessions are often sufficient to increase the longevity of microneedling results. This is also highly dependent on an individual’s skin types, lifestyle and skincare regimen.

Every microneedling appointment begins with a full skin analysis performed by your licensed aesthetician or medical provider. This includes a discussion of your goals and individual needs. The treatment area is first prepped with a topical anesthetic to help minimize any discomfort you may have throughout the procedure. This is left on for 30-45 minutes. Once the skin is adequately numb, we begin the microneedling treatment. The device is guided carefully across the skin and the needles automatically create small punctures at a depth we set. We perform 2-3 passes over each treatment area to ensure we achieve adequate coverage. If you add PRP to the treatment, this is first applied to the surface of the skin and gently stamped down into the deeper layers using the microneedling pen. After the procedure, we apply the remaining PRP to the skin, which helps to speed up the recovery process. The treatment is finished with serums and moisturizers to help promote healing and restore hydration. The entire process takes around 1 hour to complete.

It is recommended you avoid skincare products with active ingredients for 5 days before treatment. These include retinol, vitamin C, AHA and BHA products.

Microneedling is a non-invasive treatment that treats the most superficial layers of the skin, so there is little to no downtime. Your skin may appear pink immediately afterward, which subsides over a few hours after the treatment. Most patients return to work and resume normal daily activities immediately afterward.

Microneedling is a well-tolerated procedure. We properly numb the treatment areas beforehand with topical anesthetic to ensure you do not feel any pain.

Microneedling itself does not typically cause acne; in fact, it can be used as a treatment for certain types of acne scars. However, there is a small risk of temporary flare-ups immediately following treatment due to increased circulation and potential irritation. To minimize this risk, it’s crucial to avoid microneedling with active acne breakouts and to adhere to post-treatment skincare recommendations by your licensed provider.
