Chemical Peels

Unlock the secret to glowing, revitalized skin.

With the transformative power of chemical peels your skin will appear brighter, rejuvenated and have a more even tone. Chemical peels remove the damaged outer layers of the skin to smooth texture, clear breakouts or smooth away fine lines. They can noticeably improve your skin in more ways than one. At HausMD, we offer a variety of light, medium, or intense chemical peels treatments depending on your skin type and individual needs.

What Are Chemical Peels?

Chemical peels are advanced skincare treatments that harness the power of specialized chemical solutions to exfoliate the skin. Each peel contains a different exfoliating agent that  targets specific skin concerns. Chemical peels are considered to be safer and more effective than at-home physical exfoliators, which may cause damage by creating micro-tears in the skin.

By applying chemical peel solutions to the skin’s surface, we encourage the shedding of dead and sun damaged skin cells to unveil a fresh, revitalized layer underneath. They are left on for an average of 5-10 minutes, depending on desired effect. This results in improved texture and renewed radiance. Our licensed providers and estheticians will help you determine the best type of chemical peel to address your skin concerns and goals during a consultation.

Mandelic Acid Peel

Benefits: Brightening, anti-aging, safe for sensitive skin

This AHA chemical peel utilizes Mandelic acid that is derived from bitter almonds and renowned for its remarkable benefits in rejuvenating and enhancing the skin’s appearance. It is a gentle alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that carefully exfoliates the skin. Its larger molecular size means it penetrates the skin more slowly. Mandelic acid, a versatile AHA, is safe for all skin tones and benefits most skin types, including acne-prone and sensitive. It minimizes the risk of post-peel hyperpigmentation, making it a safe option for even darker skin types.

As we age, our skin’s natural exfoliation process slows down, leading to the accumulation of dead skin cells and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. This is worsened by sun exposure which can take a toll on our skin and cause premature signs of aging. Mandelic acid chemical peels help promote cell turnover to remove dead skin cells, dirt and debris without causing excessive irritation or redness. It also stimulates collagen and elastin production which are essential for maintaining skin elasticity and firmness. Mandelic acid contains potent antibacterial properties to help combat acne-causing bacteria, reducing inflammation, preventing future breakouts and clearing clogged pores.

What Our Patients Say

Courtney was amazing! She is knowledge, smart, and caring. She really took her time to understand my needs and wants and did a fabulous job. I also find her prices very reasonable. I will definitely be using Courtney for all my beauty treatments (and supports). This was a GREAT find! I highly recommend!!!

Doctor Rothaus was really great! I did the cool peel treatment and it made a great difference on my skin for the better. The treatment didn’t hurt at all and a little bit of redness and dry skin for the next day but after that I was fine. When I went for my Follow up we took before and after pictures and I noticed a big change after one treatment, I would highly recommend this treatment. – C. R.

Lactic & Salicylic Acid Peel

Benefits: Acne-fighting, reduces hyperpigmentation, unclogs pores

Lactic and salicylic acid is a powerful combination that offers a plethora of benefits, making it a go-to solution for achieving beautiful and healthy skin. This light chemical peel creates a potent blend of ingredients that gently sloughs away dead skin cells and impurities from the surface without overly drying the skin. Lactic acid is a gentle alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that works on the skin’s top layers, while salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid (BHA) and penetrates deeper into the pores. Together, they work synergistically to eliminate blackheads, blemishes and excess oil. After receiving a lactic and salicylic acid chemical peel, you can expect a noticeable improvement in your skin’s overall appearance and texture.

If you struggle with acne or frequent breakouts, this chemical peel combination is for you! Salicylic acid’s oil-soluble nature enables it to penetrate sebum-clogged pores and reduce acne-causing bacteria. By preventing and treating acne, it helps to achieve a clearer, smoother and more even complexion.

Lactic acid is known for its skin-brightening properties and works to fade hyperpigmentation to reveal a more uniform skin tone. This helps with dark spots from sun damage and melasma. Lactic acid is also a humectant, meaning it attracts and retains moisture in the skin. This helps improve hydration, leaving the skin more supple and smooth.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Can I Expect During my Chemical Peel Appointment?

All chemical peel appointments begin with a thorough consultation. A qualified skincare specialist will assess your skin type and concerns, tailoring the peel's strength and duration to ensure optimal results without causing any harm. Your skin will first be prepped for the treatment, which includes a thorough cleansing of the skin. Your provider will then apply the peel quickly and evenly, watching your skin carefully and then removing the peel at the appropriate time. The amount of time a chemical peel remains on the skin depends on individual sensitivity and tolerance. Each patient is different, and those with sensitive skin may only tolerate a couple minutes of a chemical peel. Most patients feel a mild stinging which is temporary and subsides after a minute or so. The skin is then cleansed with water, which neutralizes the peel. Your provider will advise you to cleanse the face in 2-3 hours after your treatment, which removes the peel from the skin.

Do Chemical Peels Have Any Downtime?

The downtime from a chemical peel depends on the type of peel and how long it was left on the skin. Any associated peeling lasts around 3-7 days, which appears as dry flakes on the skin surface. We will provide a gentle cleanser and moisturizer to help control any visible peeling. Patients may return to work immediately following treatment and resume normal daily activities. We recommend avoiding strenuous physical activity and saunas for 24-48 hours after the procedure.

How Should I Prepare for a Chemical Peel?

Patients must avoid waxing, lasers and other medical treatments at least one week before a chemical peel. We also advise you to discontinue the use of any retinol products and exfoliants containing AHA, BHA or benzoyl peroxide. Please consult with your provider if you have had any recent medical cosmetic facial treatments, because we may advise you to wait until skin sensitivity has completely resolved before having a chemical peel treatment.

What Should I Expect After a Chemical Peel?

The skin will start to peel around 1-3 days after your treatment and continues for around 7-10 days, depending on the strength and type of chemical peel you receive. During this time the skin may appear red, dry and flaky as the top layer of the skin peels off. The peeling will be light and fluffy, and should be allowed to slough off naturally. You must not peel or pick off the flaking skin, as this may lead to scarring. The amount of peeling is completely dependent on the type of chemical peel treatment you received. Your skincare specialist will provide you with an essential at-home skincare routine to follow which helps to maintain hydration, decrease redness and protect the skin from the sun. After about a week when the peeling has stopped, you will notice the skin will look softer, smoother and have a more glowing appearance. It is highly important to avoid direct sun exposure while the skin is peeling because this is when it is at its most sensitive state and at risk for deeper damage.

Are Chemical Peels Safe?

When performed correctly by a licensed professional, chemical peels are a safe treatment to have done.

How Long Do Results from a Chemical Peel Last?

Most patients will see the results almost immediately. As long as you maintain a regular skincare routine, you can see results lasting several weeks to months. To ensure your results last we recommend using a moisturizer that protects and hydrates the skin barrier, avoid direct sun exposure and/or tanning beds, and apply sunscreen every day.

Can I Get a Regular Facial after a Chemical Peel?

We recommend waiting to have a regular facial approximately 4 weeks after a chemical peel to ensure the skin has fully healed. Oftentimes, patients will have a chemical peel treatment as part of their regular facial and this will be performed as the last step in the facial. Please consult with your aesthetician or provider about which option is most suitable for you.

Can I Get a Chemical Peel Before My Wedding?

We have many brides and mothers of the brides or grooms that have a chemical peel prior to the wedding. We recommend having this done at least 4 weeks prior to the big day to ensure an adequate amount of time for the skin to heal and final results to show.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Chemical Peel?

Patients who have acne, oily skin, clogged pores, black heads, dullness and fine lines are great candidates for a chemical peel. We will perform a thorough physical exam and medical history to ensure you are an appropriate candidate.

Who Should Not Get a Chemical Peel?

Patients who are pregnant or actively breastfeeding should not have a chemical peel. Also those with active skin infections, cold sores, sunburned skin, recent use of Accutane, or a history of autoimmune disease are not appropriate candidates.

Are There Any Side Effects from Chemical Peels?

Possible side effects include redness, hyperpigmentation, lightening of the skin and increased dryness or sensitivity.

Are Chemical Peels Worth It?

Absolutely! Chemical peels are great for addressing various skin concerns. They exfoliate the skin to remove dead skin cells which results in improved texture and tone. They also stimulate collagen production, leading to firmer more youthful-looking skin over time. Chemical peels are fully customizable and offer minimal downtime which makes them easy to integrate into any busy schedule or routine.

Can Chemical Peels Remove Scars?

Chemical peels can improve the appearance of certain types of scars, particularly superficial ones such as acne scars or mild discoloration. By exfoliating the outer layers of the skin, chemical peels can promote collagen production and encourage new, smoother skin to grow. For more significant scarring concerns, we recommend a combination of treatments such as the Helix laser or Virtue RF microneedling to more effectively target the deeper skin layers.
